Golden Nugget
  • Best for kids because: Fun right on Fremont Street
  • Parent's night out options: Cocktails at Ice Bar, dinner at Vic & Anthony’s
  • Family things to do: Swimming at The Tank, live shows at The Showroom
  • What we like: Dogs welcome, prime downtown location, budget-friendly
  • What we don't like: No shuttle to the Strip, smoking allowed in some rooms

Viva Las Vegas! The Golden Nugget is among the most legendary and enduring properties in town. It opened in 1946 and is still going strong. Instead of the Strip, the Golden Nugget is downtown. The vibe is updated and modern without sacrificing the trademark atmosphere that’s a little retro, a little campy, and a whole lot of fun.

The Golden Nugget is located in downtown Las Vegas, right in the heart of Fremont Street. The downtown area has undergone something of a renaissance in recent years; what used to be a less palpable part of the city has become hip, cool, and much more accommodating to families.

Summing Up: Is Golden Nugget Child-Friendly?

Much like the rest of downtown Las Vegas, the Golden Nugget has transformed to be more welcoming for all ages. The prices are reasonable, there’s plenty to do nearby, and the Tank is a true Vegas original. Fremont Street is a party destination, particularly after dark, but then again so is the Strip. It’s a matter of knowing your family’s needs and wants, but with so many museums and educational experiences in the area, the Golden Nugget should be on your family’s list.
