Hoover Dam Tours are plentiful, as you've likely seen by now. We'll help sort through all those tours and help you find the perfect one for you. After you get picked up, kick your feet up in the bus and enjoy what happens next. With seats and foot rests that are probably more comfortable than your living room recliner, you're seeing the Hoover Dam is the best way possible. You've even got a swanky restroom on board in case of potty emergencies on the way to the Hoover Dam. Your friendly tour guide will give you a rundown of everything you can expect to see at the historic Hoover Dam (including the generator room). You'll learn about the construction and what it takes to keep this colossal man-made wonder running smoothly. It was a government project that was actually completed on time and under budget--that probably hasn't happened since then ;)
Oh, and good news - you'll get a free pick-up and drop-off at your hotel.
1. Hoover Dam is 726 ft. tall. That is 171 ft. taller than the Washington Monument in Washington D.C. and twice as tall as the Luxor Casino (338 ft.) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
2. At its base, Hoover Dam is as thick (660 ft.) as two footballs fields measured end-to-end.
3. As many as 20,000 vehicles a day drive across the 45 ft. wide top of the dam between Nevada and Arizona.
4. There is enough concrete in Hoover Dam (4 1/2 million cubic yards) to build a 2 lane road from Seattle, Washington to Miami, Florida or a 4 ft. wide sidewalk around the Earth at the Equator.
5. Lake Mead is the largest reservoir in the USA and contains enough water to flood the entire state of New York with 1 ft. of water (26 million acre ft.).
6. If you drink water from the tap at Disneyland, Anaheim or Sea World in San Diego -- that water is coming from the Colorado River and Lake Mead, 300 miles away.
7. The mascot dog and favorite pet of all the construction workers during the building of the dam was buried at Hoover Dam. The grave is near the Hoover Dam Tour Center and can be visited.
This was a great way to get a complete tour of all things Hoover Dam including the generator room without wasting time. We had more than enough time to tour the dam at our own pace and experience the guided portion of the tour.
I enjoyed going to the Dam this way on express. It was just the right amount of time to be away, except we didn’t get to go up on the dam or the bridge. I would have like to be on the Dam like other tours. However, this was the perfect amount of time to be away from the strip. I recommend going first thing in the morning though, as traffic was backed up coming into the Dam as we were leaving.
Driver/guide was Ted and he was really good. Drove sanely and made sure we were comfortable.
Ralph arrived on time and proceeded to give extensive and knowledgeable information about all we would see and Las Vegas. There was a separate guide for the Dam who was also great. We thoroughly enjoyed our day.
