Labor Day Activities in Las Vegas 2011 Labor Day, the great American holiday, established to celebrate the achievement of our workers by spending time with family and friends. START A NEW FAMILY TRADITION Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs is the perfect location to start (or continue) your annual Labor Day Family Picnic. There is over 2000 acres of grassy area, luscious shade trees and desert filled with walking trails throughout the entire park. Fishing is available at any one of their four lakes (license required). The park is filled with ducks, geese, chickens and peacocks for the kids to feed. There are plenty of barbeque grills and picnic tables for your family to enjoy the entire day feasting on your favorite holiday fare, playing games and just enjoying our beautiful weather and each other. The fee for the whole day is just $6 per carload. Please arrive early as there is a first-come-first served policy. BUGS! The kids may squirm but they surely will enjoy the fun and educational exhibit at the Springs Preserve showing daily through September 5th from 11 am to 1 pm. The stars of this show include tarantulas, bark scorpions and centipedes along with other amazing invertebrates and insects of the Mojave Desert. "Bugs" is held at the Big Springs Theater inside the Origen Museum. Admission is free for members and general admission prices are $9.95 for Adults, $8.95 for Seniors, $4.95 for Children 5-17 and Children under 5 are free. CONCERTS The Fremont Street Experience is the place to be on September 3rd from 9 pm to 10:30 pm with the free concert performance "Absolutely 80's" taking over the 1st Street Stage. This event is appropriate for all ages and features many of the classic songs and artists of the '80's.
Introduce the kids to the timeless music of Tony Scodwell & Friends Big Band Concert performing on September 3rd at the Charleston Heights Arts Center Theater. It won't be long before the kids join their parents in the toe-tapping and finger-snapping fun of the trumpet sounds of Tony Scodwell, first trumpet for Doc Severinsen. The performance also features Lena Prima as she pays homage to her legendary father Louis Prima. The entire family will "rock-out" watching The Cowsills singing all of their original hits such as "We Can Fly" and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". Featuring original members of the group, The Cowsills were the group that inspired the TV series The Partridge Family. There will be three other bands joining The Cowsills all through the Labor Day weekend at the Cannery Row Casino with performances starting a 4 pm. The concert is free and appropriate for all ages. Power 88 present New York City Fresh Fest Live in Concert under the Stars at the Henderson Pavilion on September 3rd. The whole family will enjoy this evening of old-school music featuring performers that include The Sugarhill Gang, Salt-N-Pepa and Whodini. Ticket prices are $39 in advance and $49 the day of show.
