San Gennaro Feast

THIS INFORMATION IS ARCHIVAL AND MAY NOT BE CURRENT:

It‘s almost September again - and that means Little Italy is coming to Vegas via the 25th annual San Gennaro Feast, aptly called a “love affair with Italy.” It‘s fun for the entire family!

September in Las Vegas means temperatures start to cool a little, and the famous Italian Food Festival, the San Gennaro Feast, rolls into town. Follow your nose to the Feast, held at Boca Park, located at Rampart Blvd. and Alta Dr. Let yourself be tempted by the wafting, rich aromas of meatballs and simmering marina sauce! You can choose from over 65 food vendors, offering everything from traditional Italian fare like calamari and linguine and clams, to more American fare like Philly cheesesteak sandwiches and roasted corn. There‘s even a beer garden for grown-ups to wash down their food. Be sure everyone in the family gets to sample from the array of traditional Italian desserts like cannoli and tiramisu! And all this delicious food wouldn‘t be complete without the wandering minstrels playing and singing Italian music. Mamma-mia! There are also over 140 vendor booths to browse through with arts and crafts and other merchandise for sale.

For the kids, San Gennaro offers non-stop fun with a petting zoo, pony rides and a huge carnival. The carnival rivals any that a state fair might have, with rides like the Ferris wheel, the Zipper and the Ring of Fire. Don’t miss the enormous midway chock full of fun games you can try your hand at. And what carnival is complete with out cotton candy and candy apples? There is also a Main Stage that has a great line-up of performers! You can relax and soak up the music from Jay White performing as Neil Diamond, Gary Anthony as ""old blue eyes"" Sinatra, and accordionist Joey Vento, from the Tonight Show, just to name a few. There will also be over 200 children‘s song and dance groups and karate demos on Saturday and Sunday that everyone will enjoy.

The original San Gennaro Festival started in New York City‘s Little Italy in 1926, and has been a tradition in Las Vegas since 1980. The Feast is named after Naples beloved saint, San Gennaro - a 4th century bishop of Benevendo, Italy. The anniversary of his martyrdom is September 19, which is why the San Gennaro Festival or Feast is always held in September. The saint is looked to for protection from earthquakes, fires, plagues and drought. To this day, Gennaro remains a favorite saint, celebrated in Italy and the United States. The Las Vegas celebration of San Gennaro will also have a traditional Sicilian procession, led by Father Dave Cassaleggio, on Wednesday, Sept. 15, in the evening.

The Feast dates and hours are:

Sept. 14 to Sept. 17 (Tuesday through Friday) 4pm - 11pm
Sept. 18 (Saturday) 11am - Midnight
Sept. 19 (Sunday) 11am - 9pm

Admission is:

$ 7.00 for adults
$ 5.00 for seniors
Children 54"" and under are FREE.

Location: Flamingo Road and I-215, Las Vegas

Las Vegas San Gennaro Festival is an annual event honoring the saint by that name. Folks gather from all over the place to celebrate their Italian heritage or at least the idea of it. Enjoy a wide variety of ethnic food offerings, sampling throughout the weekend.

In between snacks, you can take in the live acts appearing hourly on the main stage.

Pick from all sorts of genres to tap your toes and do a little boogie.

Kids will enjoy the amusement rides, and will likely want to play here all day.

Plenty of games are available too, so there will be ample entertainment for the younger set.

Gather up your group and make plans for this 27th annual feast.

Every year they try to outdo the year before, so you’re sure to see some added surprises and new features. Whether you’re Italian by birth or by choice for just the weekend, get over to the feast for some family good times.
