The Stratosphere

2000 S Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89104
1929 Ratings

The STRAT Hotel & Tower has become a one-of-a-kind landmark in the Vegas skyline and, at 1,149 feet high, its tower is the spot for the ultimate view of Las Vegas. But offering a spectacular view, the highest thrill rides in the country, a bevy of dining options and a variety of accommodations, is just the beginning. The STRAT is one of the top kid-friendly Las Vegas hotels.

The STRAT Hotel

The Stratosphere's casino is nearly as impressive an entity as the tower. It's one of the larger gaming floors in town and is constantly updated with state-of-the-art slot machines and video technology. Plus, there's an action-packed race and sports book and a 24-hour poker room with eight tables. The Stratosphere also boasts a grand front entrance with valet service. There are 2,427 rooms, mostly in the Premier Tower. More than 900 rooms (called the Stratosphere Select) were recently remodeled and feature modern decor, flat-screen televisions, MP3 alarm clocks, 240-thread-count bedding, elegant furnishings and upgraded bathroom floors and vanities.

The Tower Rides

Among the fun rides at the Stratoshpere Tower is SkyJump, a great attraction for thrill seekers who aren't afraid of heights, is also located on Level 108. Adventurous visitors are strapped into a harness, attached to the "descender machine" and step off a narrow platform only to plunge 855 feet straight down. In addition to SkyJump, the Stratosphere boasts a number of other hair-raising attractions including the Big Shot, a seated, shorter but equally thrilling ride, and X Scream, which extends you over the ledge of the Stratosphere Tower -- and leaves you there. The stop is only for a few seconds, but it's long enough to make you appreciate attractions on the first floor. A fourth ride is called Insanity-The Ride. Nothing more need be said!

1. SkyJump

Do you ever question your sanity? You might want to before you get on this ride. But as they say, just do it. Stop with the questioning, the doubts, the fear...take the dive off the 108th floor of the Stratosphere Tower with SkyJump--it's a total rush.

SkyJump is the heart-pounding, scream-inducing, open-air leap from 829 feet above the Las Vegas Strip. You'll zoom toward the landing pad at speeds topping 40mph, while the crowds below gasp and applaud your insanity....ehm, we mean your bravado! You can SkyJump during the day or brave a nighttime jump. See age and height/weight restrictions below.

SkyJump is open to ages 14 or older. All jumpers between 14 and 17 years old must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who must sign an authorization waiver. Height minimum is 52 inches or taller

2. Big Shot

The Big Shop is billed as the Vegas amusement park ride that touches the sky. You'll be strapped onto the Big Shot and be shot 160 feet in the air at 45 miles per hour! There's no better view of the Las Vegas Valley! In a matter of seconds, the Big Shot thrill ride catapults 16 riders from the 921-foot high platform up the Tower's mast to a height of 1,081 feet and down again. Before you catch your breath, you'll be shot back up again at forces unmatched by other Vegas thrill parks! Experience a gut-wrenching four 'G's of force on the way up, and feel negative 'G's on the way down as your legs dangle in the Las Vegas skyline.

Height and Weight Minumums and Restrictions

Must be at least 48" tall to ride the Big Shot

3. Insanity

Insanity the Ride is a truly mind-bending experience! A massive mechanical arm extending out 64 feet over the edge of the Stratosphere Tower at a height of over 900 feet, this Vegas ride will spin you and several other passengers in the open air at speeds of up to three 'G's. You'll be propelled up to an angle of 70 degrees, which will tilt your body into one position — straight down! If you're brave enough to keep your eyes open, you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking view of historic downtown Las Vegas. Experience Insanity and walk away to tell the tale!

4. X-Scream

Ever played on a giant teeter-totter, 866 feet above the ground? With X-Scream, you can! It's space age, yet simplistic design resembles a massive teeter-totter or a Vegas rollercoaster unlike any other ever seen. X-Scream propels you and several other riders headfirst, 27 feet over the edge of the Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower. Try not to scream when you go over the edge — you don't want to scare the other riders! After being shot over the edge, you'll dangle weightlessly above the Las Vegas Strip before being pulled back and propelled over again for more.

Height and Weight Minumums and Restrictions

The Shows

The Arcade: Strat-o-fair

The Stratosphere's 17,000-square-foot midway called Strat-O-Fair midway showcases a 1963 World's Fair theme. The midway is located at the base of the 1,149-foot tower which houses Top of The World restaurant & lounge and observation decks.

Some of the main midway attractions include: The Sky Wheel, a 45-foot in diameter Ferris Wheel which provides passengers at the apex of the ride a view of the Strip from 80 feet above the street. The Ferris Wheel, circa 1958 was restored and renovated for the Strat-O-Fair by Eli Bridge, the oldest Ferris Wheel company in the U.S.

An equally exciting, but smaller version of the Big Shot has been adapted for kids named The Little Shot. The ride propels visitors 20 feet into the air while simulating the exhilarating feeling of the Big Shot, but on a smaller scale. Other unique attractions at the Strat-O-Fair are the Hover Crash, a futuristic bumper car ride, which is battery operated, and the only one of its kind in the world.

Hyper-Bowl, a virtual bowling game with a 10-foot screen and 3-D visual is a featured attraction. Visitors can bowl a complete virtual-reality game with Hyper-Bowl and actual leagues can be formed. This computer bowling game is one of the firsts of its kind in the U.S. To complete the midway, there are also two food outlets-Astro Snacks and The Launch Pad Lounge-as well as several "games of skill" where patrons can win prizes such as plush, stuffed-toys. The games include: Basketball Shot, Cat Rack, Ring Toss, Milk Can, Milk Bottles and the Water Race.

The Swimming Pool

Seasonally, there's the lovely eighth-floor Level 8 Pool where you can catch some rays on an expansive deck, and the the 25th-floor Radius Rooftop Pool & Wet Lounge where you can enjoy great views and the daily Sunset Happy Hour Whether it's great heights, great attractions or a great show you're looking for, the Stratosphere has an abundance of amenities to enjoy.
