The famous magicians, Siegfried and Roy, are the inspiration behind the wondrous accomplishment of the Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat located at the Mirage Hotel and Casino. The Secret Garden opened in 1990 and has provided families with fun filled and educational experiences while helping preserve and protect some our world's most endangered species. The Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins and various species of large cats, including the famous White Tigers, that call the Secret Garden their home, will be seen thriving in habitats designed after their natural environment. All these animals were never trained to perform.
Your family's tour through the habitat will include viewing the Royal White Tigers, White Stripped Tigers, Golden Tiger, panthers and leopards, their cubs playing and dozing. Parents and children both will have the rare experience of viewing some of the very few White Tigers left, even more rare than Pandas.
The Secret Garden's other inhabitants are the Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins. These dolphin's find their home in the garden the perfect tropical temperature. The Dolphin Habitat's 2.5 million gallon arena gives the dolphins plenty of room as they can jump up to 20 feet. Kids and their parents will have the amazing opportunity to learn about the birthing process, watching a video of a live dolphin birth. Any one over the age of 13 can sign up to be "Trainer for the Day". The fee is $550 and two observers are allowed for a fee of $150. Trainer for the Day will learn firsthand how to train dolphins under the guidance of expert dolphin care specialists. The fees include breakfast, lunch, lots of pictures, and an experience of a lifetime. For those wishing to try their hand at Trainer of the Day, it is recommended that you make reservations two months in advance during the summer months.
Families can cool off at the Dolphin Bar with a refreshing drink while taking in the tropical vegetation and tranquil atmosphere of a Secret Garden filled with waterfalls and lakes.
The Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat is open Monday through Friday 11 a.m to 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, Sundays and Holiday the hours are 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The prices for the tour are Adults $17, Children 4-12 years $12 and children under 3 years of age are free.
Another performance not to be missed on your family's Las Vegas vacation is the thrilling explosion of the Mirage Volcano located in front of the Mirage Hotel, at street level. There is no charge to see this performance. Right next door, children will be excited to see a real live pirate battle at the Treasure Island Hotel and Casino, also a free performance. And what family vacation would be complete without a canal ride on the gondolas at the Venetian Hotel and Casino located across the Las Vegas Strip.
