Chuck Jones, legendary animator and creator of some of our most memorable cartoon characters, has been granted his lifelong dream! Chuck wanted his legacy to include a place where anyone-especially children-could pursue their artistic abilities in a totally free-spirited environment.
Chuck Jones was one of animation's pioneers creating such beloved characters as Wile E. Coyote, Road Runner and Pepe' le Pew. His career spanned over 60 years producing more than 300 animated films. Born in 1912, Chuck was heavily influenced as a child by watching Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton.
He graduated from the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles and got his first job at Iwerks Productions working under the Disney animator, Ubbee Iwerks as a cel washer. He continued along his animation career working with, and for, such famous directors as Tex Avery and Bob Clampett through the early 1940s. He directed his first film: 'The Night Watchman" in 1937.
After leaving Iwerks Productions, Chuck moved on to working with Directors Freleng and Robert McKimson at Warner Bros until 1962. While there, Chuck produced and created some of his most worldwide recognizable cartoons that continue to be enjoyed and loved today. This era is known as the 'Golden Years' of Warner Bros. animation.
When Warner Bros. closed, Chuck began working at MGM Studios in addition to establishing his own production company, Chuck Jones Enterprises. These years of Chuck's life gave us such amazing characters as 'Tom and Jerry' in addition to his producing Dr. Seuss' 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas'. Chuck is also one of the fathers of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck along with creating "Rikki Tikki Tavi" and "The White Seal" which are eternal television specials watched by families around the world.
One of Chuck's films, "What's Opera, Doc?" was inducted into the National Film Registry touted as being "among the most culturally, historically and aesthetically significant films of our time." In explaining Chuck Jones's never-ending appeal to a global audience, Director Peter Bogdanovich said, "His works remain, like all good fables and only the best art, both timeless and universal."
The Chuck Jones Foundation was established in 2000 by the legend himself to promote his desire to inspire and support the art of classic character animation through scholarships, exhibits and lecture series.
